Background
I am currently a software engineer for Symphoniq, a startup company that makes software to monitor web servers and application servers. I've been with the company since its founding in 2002 and was the first engineering employee.

Previously, I was the Chief Technology Officer for TargetFirst, Inc., a company I founded with Chris Yeh and Thomas Leavitt in September 1999. TargetFirst was a venture-funded startup company based in San Mateo, California that provides Web-based customer acquisition and retention tools.

Prior to founding TargetFirst, I worked for D. E. Shaw Financial Technology (DESoFT) in Cambridge, Massachusetts, a division of D. E. Shaw & Co. focused on developing Web-based online brokerage software. In April 1999, Merrill Lynch acquired DESoFT and renamed it the Merrill Lynch Intelligent Technologies Group, where I worked on the development of the Merrill Lynch Direct brokerage service.

Before that, I was a Development Manager and Project Lead of the User Interface/Publishing group at WiseWire Corporation, a startup company based in Pittsburgh. WiseWire developed intelligent agent technology to learn a user's interests and deliver custom-picked Internet content. WiseWire was acquired by Lycos in 1998.

I attended Stanford University, where I received a B.S. and M.S. in Computer Science. As a Masters student, I concentrated in Human-Computer Interaction, a discipline that focuses on how to make computer software more usable for people, and how to design more effective user interfaces.

I'm originally from New York City, but, contrary to many people's expectations, I don't have a "Noo Yawk" accent.
